The aid dilemma in Syria – How to support the Syrian people while minimising risk of aid diversion
The session takes stock of in the findings of a recent Swedish MFA commissioned study on aid diversion by New York University, Center on International Cooperation, and the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, as well as a Syria Legal Development Programme (SLDP) mapping of the top 100 private and public-private Syrian suppliers to various United Nations agencies in 2019-2020.

Committed in the Face of Crisis: Lessons from Colombia’s People-Centered Migration and Protection Policy
This discussion aims to bring together UN-member states, UN agencies, funders, and non-government migration, protection, and justice experts to discuss Colombia’s migration and protection policy. It will explore the commendable policy efforts made by successive Colombia administrations to pursue economic and social integration of Venezuelan refugees and migrants in the face of crisis and the challenges around securing adequate international support for this unprecedented effort. In doing so, it will also explore the implications of the Colombia case for broader regional and global displacement policies and forums.

In August 2021, Albania took in over 3,000 Afghan evacuees, seeking safety from the new Taliban regime. This decision demonstrated that small countries can mitigate humanitarian crises and that they can build new solidarities and partnerships in the process. In this Luce Lecture, Dr Odeta Barbullushi explains the interplay between foreign policy decision-making, humanitarian crisis, and state identities. Drawing from her own experience, Dr Barbullushi reflects on women's contributions to international mediation as well as the role of education in shaping decision making in foreign policy.

Solidarity in Action (Part II): Recognizing unity in the achievement of racial justice
To mark the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, join the Pathfinders Grand Challenge on Inequality and Exclusion for the second part of the “Solidarity in Action” webinar series on countering divisive narratives, where we will hear from country experiences on how the current and evolving forms of racist narratives play out, pinpointing their similarities and differences, and its impact on progress. Crucially, we will identify the ways in which policymakers and civil society are successfully countering discourses of hate and prejudice, and building solidarity across race that resists racist dog-whistles and ‘culture war’ stories that threaten our path towards racial equality, and social justice.

Demographic and Socioeconomic Changes Induced by the COVID-19 Pandemic in Bangladesh: Dynamics and challenges of new circumstances
BRAC, UN Women, and New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (CIC) recently concluded a study of the demographic and socioeconomic changes induced by the unprecedented reverse (urban-to-rural) migration that took place in Bangladesh following the COVID-19 lockdown. Findings from the study reveal the dire circumstances facing returnee migrants, their families, and their rural communities, including an alarmingly high incidence of child marriages among surveyed households, an explosion in household debt, and the drying up of income opportunities.
