Partnerships are expected to play a critical role in sharing the knowledge, expertise, technology and financial resources that will support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. This report analyzes the role that global platforms and partnerships can play in catalyzing delivery of the new goals, brining together actors from multiple sectors behind a common set of objectives, enabling each other to play to their strengths and maximizing the contribution of others. It presents case studies and lessons learned of partnerships under the thematic areas of people, the planet, prosperity, peace and partnerships. Opportunities and gaps in the partnership portfolio are identified and recommendations made for where new platforms are needed. The paper concludes with a discussion of what is needed to make the partnership portfolio “fit for results” and to maximize its contribution to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
