Global Cooperation to Deliver the Post-2015 Development Agenda

Last week,  the President of the UN General Assembly led a thematic debate on the contributions of North-South, South-South, Triangular Cooperation, and ICT for development. CIC Senior Fellow David Steven, at the request of the President of the General Assembly, delivered a presentation which discussed the contributions of North-South, South-South, and triangular cooperation to the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda. The outcome of this discussion will be included in the President’s summary and will be available as an input in the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals.

In his presentation, Steven highlights the complexity of the issues that the Sustainable Development Goals are likely to address. He states that there is a vast gulf between business-as-usual trends and the goals and targets that the international community is likely to set for 2030. He proposes viewing the implementation of the goals through the five well-established principles of development partnership: ownership, alignment, harmonization, managing for results, and mutual accountability.
