Annual Report 2018-2019

The Center on International Cooperation (CIC) at New York University is pleased to share our Annual Report 2018-2019, which covers CIC’s activities and achievements here in New York and around the globe from July 2018 through September of this year.

This period was a particularly intense one for our work on peace, justice, and inclusion. The Pathfinders multistakeholder partnership seized the opportunity of 2019’s review of new sustainable development goals on peace, justice, and reduced inequalities to welcome new members and support governments and civil society partners to register the largest number of acceleration actions for any SDG. Our projects, events, and publications demonstrated many practical examples of progress to counter a generally gloomy global narrative on peace, justice and inclusion. This includes the work of the Task Force on Justice, co-chaired by Argentina, the Netherlands, and Sierra Leone; and the Grand Challenge on Inequality and Exclusion convened by Indonesia, Tunisia and Sweden with Ethiopia, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Uruguay, the United Nations, the World Bank, the OECD, Oxfam, and Civicus.

At the same time, CIC has worked to support UN reforms as they move into implementation, supported cooperation on the conflict prevention agenda at the UN and between the UN and the World Bank, and evaluated efforts to link humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding activities in Chad, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Nigeria, Somalia, and other countries. Our specialized country programs have continued to analyze and support attempts to bring peace and political stability to the long-standing conflicts in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Syria. We look forward to continuing these efforts in 2020 and beyond.
