Dr. Nur Laiq is an Emerging Technology & Geopolitics Fellow and an Ernest May Fellow in History & Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School. Her work examines how governments manage—and often fail to manage—technological change.
She works on the political and policy history of technology and artificial intelligence (AI), analyzing both continuity and disruption in the development of policies related to public goods, innovation, regulation, and geopolitics. Her research offers a deeper understanding of the role of politics and policymaking in reconfiguring the economic and geopolitical landscapes of tech and AI at the subnational, national, and international levels.
Her work on technology and AI governance in the multilateral system centers on the United Nations. She is particularly interested in the opportunities and risks associated with applying AI to the sustainable development agenda, as well as its use in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Bringing more than fifteen years of experience as a policy practitioner, she is committed to informing better decision-making on technology and AI policy.
