Jonathan Papoulidis

Jonathan Papoulidis is a Non-Resident Fellow at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (CIC).

He is the Vice President of Food for the Hungry, leading the agency’s global policy engagement, convenings, and partnerships.

Previously, he served in several senior roles with the United Nations (UN), including as UN Coordinator and Special Advisor for Aceh and Nias and as UN Security Coordinator for Sumatra. From 2004 to 2006, he was part of the UN peacekeeping mission in post-war Liberia, advising both the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on governance and economic reform and the Deputy Special Representative on recovery and planning.

Earlier, he was the senior representative for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Turkey, responsible for preparations for the 2003 humanitarian response in Iraq. He also held various positions at UN Headquarters in New York, focusing on the protection of civilians, conflict prevention, private-sector partnerships, and post-crisis transitional planning.

He has held academic and policy fellowships, including as a World Projects Fellow at Columbia University, a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, and the Center for Refugee Studies at York University. His writing has appeared in publications by the Brookings Institution, World Bank, OECD, Harvard International Review, Yale Journal of International Affairs, and Cambridge Review of International Affairs.

He holds a graduate degree in international relations from the University of Cambridge.
