Voluntary National Reviews for More Peaceful, Just, and Inclusive Societies: Amplifying SDG16+ Messaging for the 2024 High-level Political Forum
April 9, 2024 | 9:00 a.m. (EST) / 2:00 p.m. (CET) | Hybrid, Permanent Mission of Spain
Organized by Pathfinders for Peaceful, Just and Inclusive Societies, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the support of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA)
This event is invitation-only.
The Sustainable Development Goal 16 is under review at this year’s High-level Political Forum (HLPF) in July 2024. As we work to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the world is facing multiple and intersecting crises, including escalating violence and conflict, climate change, and a breakdown in trust at all levels. Against such a reality, SDG16+, with its emphasis on peace, justice, equality and inclusion, and its tangible interlinkages with other SDGs, provides a way forward to address such crises.
Investing in SDG16+ will be vital to fast-tracking the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in its second half, including by rebuilding trust between and among people, governments, and the multilateral system.
With an eye to HLPF and other intergovernmental processes, including the Summit of the Future in September 2024, the World Social Summit in 2025, and the fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in 2025, this workshop aims to highlight the critical importance of acting on and advancing SDG16 and its interlinkages with the entire Agenda 2030 to deliver for people and planet.
Participants
This workshop would target member states reporting at HLPF this year who have voiced and demonstrated commitment to SDG16+ and its implementation (namely as members of the Pathfinders). The workshop would also include civil society representatives involved in the VNR process from design and consultation, to presentation, and follow-up, as well as UN representatives.
