“Yes, with some reservations. I have closely followed the negotiations on the Pact since last year, and I do think it confirms that there is hope for multilateralism.”

Betty Wainaina, Program Director of the Multilateral Reform Program at the Center for International Cooperation at New York University, views the Pact for the Future, adopted at the UN Summit of the Future, as both a milestone and a document with significant weaknesses.

While it highlights the importance of international cooperation and multilateralism, Wainaina notes that geopolitical tensions have resulted in a less ambitious pact than many had hoped. However, she remains optimistic, stressing that the Pact’s adoption is a significant commitment to multilateralism.
