CIC Deputy Director and Senior Fellow Hanny Megally talks to the Australia Broadcasting Corporation’s Rachel Hayter about the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria’s call for a ceasefire after the recent devastating earthquake in Syria.
“Agreement has been reached between in Damascus between the United Nations and the Syrian authorities – President Assad – to allow this to happen. So there has not been a Security Council resolution because that agreement has been reached. When the earthquake hit and it was clear that this was going to be a huge tragedy, the Commission of Inquiry called for a ceasefire because obviously with the shelling and the bombardments going on, it would have been difficult for international humanitarian assistance and aid to come to the area.”
