Wiktoria Gucia is a graduate student research assistant in the Prevention, Peacebuilding, and Protracted Crises program at the Center on International Cooperation (CIC) at New York University.
A Fulbright scholar from the United Kingdom, she is pursuing a master’s degree in Cultural Reporting and Criticism at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. She holds a bachelor’s degree in social science from University College London (UCL), where she was actively involved in various student publications and worked as a research intern on a randomized control trial assessing the feasibility of a group antenatal care model for diverse and disadvantaged women in the UK.
Originally from Poland, she is deeply interested in the causes and consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, with a particular focus on the position and treatment of women and Ukrainian refugees during the war. She has also organized conferences in the UK to raise awareness about the lack of reproductive rights for women in Poland.
She is ardent about the intersection of academic research and journalism, believing it is essential to fostering informed discourse. Her experience conducting primary qualitative research on Catholicism in Italy and intergenerational solidarity in UK care homes has taught her that the everyday human experience is at the heart of all international relations.
