Joris de Mooij is a Program Associate in the Multilateral Reform program at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (CIC).
Originally from the Netherlands, he grew up in Washington, D.C. Before joining CIC, he gained experience in international relations and multilateralism through roles with the United Nations (UN), think tanks, and NGOs.
He holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), where he specialized in Security Strategy and Statecraft. His capstone project included a conflict management field trip to El Salvador, focusing on human rights and public security. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Economics from McGill University in Quebec, Canada.
He began his career at the International Crisis Group, where he drafted articles for “Crisis Watch” and interned for the President and CEO in Washington, D.C., and Brussels, Belgium. He has contributed to transatlantic leadership initiatives at the German Marshall Fund and supported strategic insights at the Atlantic Council. Most recently, he interned at the UN Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions (OROLSI).
He is passionate about international security, strategic policy development, and advancing multilateral cooperation to address global challenges.
