CIC director Sarah Cliffe was interviewed by Devex in an article about the growing popular demand for international cooperation.
“The dark picture is that we rarely see multilateral institutions being so contested," said Cliffe, but "we see 90 to 95% of people in polls saying more international cooperation is needed. In most regions people are not very satisfied with the international cooperation they are getting, but the demand is very clearly there."
Secretary-General António Guterres’ plans to reform the United Nations put the 2030 development agenda center stage and are intended to jumpstart the Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to lift 700 million people out of extreme poverty in less than 15 years. This investment requires trillions of dollars each year.
It took more than four years and skillful backroom negotiation to obtain an important victory — the ratification of the next global development agenda, the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, that will guide the world for the next 15 years.
