Program Assistant, Multilateral Reform

The NYU Center on International Cooperation (CIC) is seeking a graduate student worker to support the Center’s Multilateral Reform Program as Program Assistant for Fall 2025, with possible extension into Spring 2026 with a time commitment of 20 hours per week, while school is in session, and the possibility of full-time during official school breaks.

The ideal candidate will have excellent writing and research skills, as well as a proven interest (through coursework, etc.) in CIC’s programmatic areas. The individual will ideally be a current graduate-level student. Experience in quantitative research and analysis are desired, but not required. All student workers are encouraged to attend all of CIC’s public events and open meetings to foster their understanding of current trends in the field.

New York University’s Center on International Cooperation has, over two decades, built a reputation for its work on the links between politics, security, justice, and sustainable development. Our core mission is to enhance international responses on the countries and issues most important to conflict prevention and recovery, through direct and regular engagement with multilateral institutions and the wider policy community.

Primary Duties:

  • Support research and knowledge management for the Multilateral Reform program, including compiling research packets on UN reform, broader multilateral reform initiatives, and thematic issues such as artificial intelligence governance.
  • Draft a weekly digest of key news articles, reports, and developments relevant to the program’s workstreams.
  • Conduct ad-hoc research to inform team outputs, including reports, speeches, talking points, and event preparation.
  • Assist in convening and organizing program-related meetings and events, including logistical and note-taking support.
  • Contribute to the drafting and review of program publications, with opportunities to gain experience in policy writing and analysis.

General Qualifications:

  • Current graduate student in international relations, economics, social studies, development studies, global affairs, public policy, non-profit management or other related fields preferred, with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant office experience or equivalent work experience preferred;
  • Exceptional organizational, logistics, and project management skills;
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to liaise with high-level diplomats and other prominent partners. Demonstrated experience in this area an asset;
  • Ability to develop, maintain and enjoy effective working relationships with people from a wide variety of organizations and with a wide variety of functional expertise;
  • Proven ability to prioritize a wide range of assignments and consistently deliver at a high level of quality in high pressure, fast-paced environments;
  • Ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented (virtual and in-person) environment;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion;
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite – demonstrated knowledge and experience with Excel required;
  • Demonstrated interest in managing research related tasks and/or events execution;
  • Knowledge of the United Nations system, international financial institutions, diplomacy and interest in International Development, International Affairs and/or the non-profit sector preferred.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current graduate student in international relations, journalism, communications, marketing, public policy or other related fields preferred but not required.
  • Able to commit to working 20 hours per week as needed and mutual agreement.

Evaluation:  End-of- semester evaluation and regular check-ins with the position supervisor(s).

Pay rate: Undergraduate $16.50/hr, Graduate Local 2110 $30.00/hr

Federal Work-Study is not required for this role, unless specifically stated within the job description. If you are eligible to receive Federal Work-Study funds, your eligibility status will be disclosed to the hiring manager to ensure proper processing if hired

NYC Pay Transparency Act

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for student employment positions are $16.50 per hour for undergraduate students and $30.00 per hour for graduate students. The hourly rate for graduate employees is based on the collective bargaining agreement with Local 2110.
