The United Nations will soon face the task of defining what role it will play in international tax policy discussions following the members’ decision to pass a resolution to create a binding treaty on global tax cooperation.

The resolution approved by the UN directs early drafters of the treaty to prioritize illicit financial flows and cross-border services—a wide area of focus that has critics worried about potential overlap with work done by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
