Elisabeth Oliveira da CostaVisiting Scholar
Elisabeth Oliveira da Costa is a CIC Visiting Scholar and a Rotary Peace Fellow. She is a Masters in Peace Studies candidate at the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan, where she is studying the diffusion of human rights norms across the UN Peacebuilding Architecture. Elisabeth is a UN staff on special leave without pay. Most of her 19-year career has been with the UN, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
She has worked on human rights investigations, designed and implemented peacebuilding projects and capacity-building programs, supported engagement with various UN mechanisms, and undertaken advocacy on a broad range of issues. She has worked in Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan), Africa (Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea) and the Balkans (Bosnia and Herzegovina), as well as in Geneva and New York. She has a law degree from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, and a Masters in Human Rights and Democratization from the University of Padova, Italy.
