'Mask wars' risk setting back global fight against coronavirus

In an interview to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CIC director Sarah Cliffe addressed the rush among nations to buy masks and other life-saving protective equipment.

Cliffe said the search for equipment requires a more coordinated international approach. "Understandable, says Cliffe, that each country wants to protect its own citizens. But that could backfire when countries right on the front line 'don't get the medical equipment they need,' because 'it's more likely the virus will spread in the future.'"
