"What we really need to see is more unity of action at this UNGA from countries large and small, on three key issues: access to vaccines and on the socioeconomic recovery—which are surely the most urgent priorities for the world now—and third, on climate change," Cliffe said.
In a CGTN video on the 75th anniversary of the UN Charter, CIC director Sarah Cliffe comments on the geopolitical factors complicating multilateralism today.
"For powers who are in relative decline, there may be a temptation to act defensively," Cliffe said. "For powers on the rise, relatively, there may be a temptation for them to believe that they can wait five years, until their power is even less contested, before coming forward to negotiate."
The People’s Liberation Army is the biggest single provider of troops for the United Nation’s peacekeeping force, known as the Blue Helmets.
