Gender Equality Network for Small Arms Control Communications Consultant 2024

The Gender Equality Network for Small Arms Control, hosted by the NYU Center on International Cooperation (CIC), is seeking a communications professional or a communications firm to provide essential communications support for the Network for a period not to exceed nine (9) months and based on need, starting in April 2024.

This part-time consultancy, will manage basic communications for the Network, including managing social media accounts, newsletters, and other communications projects, as part of an effort to keep members, potential funders, and other relevant stakeholders aware of the Network’s activities.

GENSAC is an NYU CIC initiative supporting a network of arms control officials and experts, peacebuilders, and civil society leaders dedicated to ensuring gender perspectives are incorporated into arms control efforts, bolstering the presence of women peacebuilders in international arms control fora, and promoting gender equality and violence reduction.

Consultancy Details:

  • Social Media Management: Curate and maintain regular updates on GENSAC’s Twitter account, ensuring a content schedule of at least two posts per day from Monday through Friday. Where needed, create social media toolkits to distribute to GENSAC network members. These efforts aims to promote the Network and showcase partners’ activities and work.
  • Graphics Production: Generate visually appealing graphics for GENSAC’s virtual and in-person events, including the annual conference, regional dialogues, and other multilateral gatherings. This encompasses the creation of social media flyers to enhance event visibility.
  • Newsletter Design and Distribution: Draft, design, and distribute a bi-monthly newsletter from ideation to implementing highlighting GENSAC members’ and partners’ activities, publications, and announcements using email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp. This effort aims to keep the network informed and engaged.
  • Digital Content Management: Create and format content for the GENSAC website, utilizing platforms such as WordPress. This includes incorporating content sourced from GENSAC members to ensure a dynamic and informative online presence.
  • Communications Support: Provide comprehensive communications support to the GENSAC network. This involves facilitating knowledge exchange and information-sharing among members to enhance overall communications effectiveness.
  • Miscellaneous: Complete other communications tasks as needed, contributing to the overall success of GENSAC’s visibility and promotion.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in digital communications, management, design (proficient in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), and website maintenance.
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading, editing, and copy-editing skills.
  • Proficient in digital content creation, with a strong understanding of various social media platforms.
  • Strong working knowledge of design tools, including Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (or similar design programs).
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools, such as WordPress, Mailchimp, Google Analytics, and social media management platforms.


  • Preferred experience in international NGOs or think tanks, particularly in development and peacebuilding.
  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or French.


This consultancy is budgeted for up to $2,000 per month, and we are looking for someone who can dedicate at least 10 hours per week to this work.
